Marlin Pair Earn Conference Recognition

FOREST, Va. –Jayla Harris of the women's basketball team and Coby Cockrell of the men's indoor track and field team have earned Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) recognition for their performances over the week. Harris was named the Player of the Week while Cockrell was named the Field Athlete of the Week. This is the second weekly ODAC award each individual has received.

Harris has continued to show her dominance on the court as she put up a pair of offensive spectacles. In the win over Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday, the senior shot 12-19 from the field and led all scorers with 31 points. She then turned in a 16-point performance in the team's win over Holllins on Saturday. It wasn't just the Fredericksburg, Va. natives scoring that helped though as she also racked up seven dimes between the two contests.

Cockrell has expanded upon his terrific freshman campaign as he reclaimed his Virginia Wesleyan University record that was taken from him a week earlier. At the Vince Brown Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport University, the thrower set a mark of 15.06 in the weight throw to reset the VWU record book and claim first in the ODAC. He then had a successful appearance in the shot put, tossing it 13.71m. In both events, the first year set the top Division III distance.

Women's basketball will be back in action at 2 p.m. on Saturday as the squad hosts Ferrum for Senior Day. Men's track and field will return to competition on Friday for day of the Virginia Military Institute Invite.
