Women's Basketball Drops Game One of "Daly 7 Classic"

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team fell, 64-37, to Emory University Saturday afternoon in the opening game of the Daly 7 Classic hosted by Guilford College. With the result the Marlins move to 0-3 on the year while Emory picks up their first win (1-1).

It was a slow start for the Marlins as it seemed as though no one could get a shot to fall. When the offense began to pick up speed in the second quarter, Emory matched it doubling up the Marlin point total. VWU would take a 42-15 deficit into the half.

Things finally began to turn the Marlins way in the fourth as the team outscored the Eagles 12-5 but it was too little too late.

The offense was spread throughout the team as eight different Marlins registered points. Amanda Gerni led the way with eight, while Jayla Harris and Jaelyn Washington each chipped in seven.

Gerni also led the squad in boards, collecting six rebounds on the day.

Women's basketball will return to action at 12 p.m. on Sunday as the team plays Greensboro College. in the second game of the Daly 7 Classic.
