COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's indoor track and field team had a tremdendous outing at the Collegville Classic hosted by Ursinus College on Saturday. The Marlins registered 61 points as a team, which topped the 24-team field.
A majority of the squad's points came at the track where the squad displayed a plethora of quality efforts. Eamon Cooney started the day with a second-place finish (out 41) in the 400m as the newcomer clocked a time of 51.43. A little while later, the Marlins saw a trio of hurdlers collect points in the 60m hurdles. Landry Moffo claimed second overall with a time of 8.48, shaving .18 seconds of his preliminary time and earning him a personal best. Joining him were Michael Gatling (9.10) and William Peyton (9.11) who claimed fifth and sixth, respectively.
Curtis Dudley also chimed in on the track earning a pair of second place finishes. The junior recorded a 7.01 in the 60m dash and then clocked a 22.99 to take second (out of 46) in the 200m dash.
In the field events, the Marlins also excelled. Coby Cockrell continued his successful freshman campaign as his toss of 14.27m in the weight throw took down his own Virginia Wesleyan record. Cockrell would also claim fifth (out of 33) in the shot put which earned him another VWU school record. At the high jump, Brycen Columbus made good as his leap of 1.85m helped him earn a second place finish and a personal record.
Men's indoor track and field will return to action again on Friday as the team competes in the two-day Captain's Invite hosted by Christopher Newport University.
