Coombs Concludes Terrific Career at NCAA Championships

LA CROSSE, Wisc. - Marissa Coombs of the Virginia Wesleyan Track and Field team closed out her career as a Marlin Thursday afternoon after being edged out of the preliminary round of the 1500-meter race.

The senior came into the day ranked sixth in the nation in the event and was slated to run in heat two. Coombs held with the pack for the first half, but was boxed in and forced towards the back around lap three. She would clock in a final time of 4:44.43.

Despite not advancing to the finals, Coombs has had an excellent career in a VWU uniform. She has been crowned and All-American four times (3x indoor, 1x outdoor) and holds four different individual records at Virginia Wesleyan. An all-around terrific athlete, Coombs will go down as one of the program's most prolific competitors.
