LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has released its final rankings for the 2019 season and the Virginia Wesleyan University softball team has been tabbed No. 11. The Marlins finished this year with a record of 42-6, making it the the NCAA Regional Round before being eliminateed by Lynchburg.
It was another terrific season for the two-time National Champions as the squad held the top ranking in Division III for all but three weeks. The team reached the 40-win mark for the third-straight year and was just one of four teams to hit that win total. Of those wins, 18 of those came against conference opponents which earned the squad the title of regular-season champions. Virginia Wesleyan would then go on to claim its fourth-striaght ODAC Championship title as they downed Randolph-Macon in the final.
The team boasted numerous award winners, including eight All-ODAC members (seven on the First Team) and the Pitcher of the Year in Hanna Hull and Coach of the Year in Brandon Elliott. Continuing the trend, six Marlins were tabbed All-South Region Players while Hull and Julia Sinnett claimed All-America accolades. Hull was also in the running for National Pitcher of the Year as she was named a top-10 player in the country.
The 2019 National Championship Bulldogs of Texas Lutheran claimed the top spot in the National Poll while Natioanl Championship runner-up Emory University was tagged No. 2. Joining VWU from the ODAC was Randolph-Macon (No. 8) and Lynchburg (No. 10).
