  • National Championship Celebration to Be Held for Softball

    VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The 2018 National Champion Virginia Wesleyan University softball team invites you to come celebrate the title run with a meet and greet for fans and young players to meet the team! The event will take place at Shorebreak Pizza and Taphouse at 5:30 p.m. (to 7:30 p.m.) on Thursday. Shorebreak is located 2941 Shoredrive in Virginia Beach. Fan can come and get gear signed by the Nation Champion Marlins as 11 players for the squad will be in attendance. Team photos and door prizes will be given away for young fans who wished to get it signed as well as cake for everyone! Virginia Wesleyan University hopes that all can come join the fun and celebrate!

    VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Hanna Hull of the Virginia Wesleyan University softball team has been named Fastpitch News’ Pitcher of the Year as well as a member of its All-America First Team. This is her second time being named a First Team All-America by FPN.

Headed by Brandon Elliott, the staff consisting of Jim Quinn, Jenna Wilson, Chris Smith and Bobby Wills helped steer the softball team towards one of the best seasons in NCAA history.

    OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan University softball team defended its NCAA Division III National Champion Title as it downed Illinois Wesleyan University, 3-1, in the winner-take-all championship game at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Marlins finish their season with a record of 55-3, setting a Division III record for wins in a season. The mark was previously 54, set by the Marlins last season.

    OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan University softball team split the first two games of the NCAA Division III Championship Title Series with Illinois Wesleyan University Monday afternoon at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium. The squad came out victorious in game one, winning 6-1, before being edged, 5-4, in extra innings in game two. With the results, the Marlins are now 54-3 on the season and will square off against Illinois Wesleyan in a winner take all game beginning at 11 a.m. (12 p.m. EST) on Tuesday.

    VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan University softball team will be heading back to the NCAA Division III Championships in Oklahoma City after being crowned the Super Regional Champs Sunday morning at Marlins Park. The team downed Berry College, 7-6, in eight innings after a rain delay caused the game to be played over the course of two days. With the win the Marlins reach the 50-win mark for the second-straight season (50-2).

The squad will be hosting Berry College in a best-of-three series beginning with a single game to be played at 4 p.m. on Friday. Game two will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday with game three (if necessary) coming directly after game two.

With the win the Marlins move to 46-2 on the year and will now square off against Christopher Newport University in the second game of the NCAA Regional Round. That game will once again take place on the campus of CNU and first pitch will be thrown at 1 p.m.

    FOREST, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team represented in a big way as, not only did it put forth the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year and Coach of the Year, but also placed a record eight players to the All-Conference Teams. Madison Glaubke collected Player of the year honors while classmate Hanna Hull took home the Pitcher of the Year crown. Those two were joined by Cassetty Howerin, Kiersten Richardson and Beth Ford as members of the All-ODAC First Team. Jessica Lindsay and Katelyn Biando’s efforts earned them both a spot on the All-Conference Second Team while Julia Sinnett was named to the Third Team. All-conference voting was determined using in-conference stats only.

Both 2017 All-Americans, Hull and Howerin have made the cut to 25 as both were named to the Top-50 preseason watch list.

    SALEM, Va. - The No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan University came out victorious in six-straight elimination games to earn the title of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Champs. The squad shut out Emory & Henry twice en route to the title crowning. Game one was taken 1-0 by the Marlins before handing the Wasps a 6-0 loss in the winner-take-all championship game.
