Men's Swimming Places 9th in First Ever ODACs

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's swim team finished out its year at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships Sunday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Marlins placed ninth, accumulating 119 total team points.

The squad got things going right away in the 100-yard free as Kristian Rinkus clocked a 50.59 in the 100-yd freestyle preliminary round, setting a new school record. Stephen Carlo (53.42) and Wade Jernigan (1:04.50) also performed well in the 100-yd free as both set new personal records. Kyle Woolf also came away with a PR/new school record as he touched the wall in 2:43.71 in the 200-yd breast.

In the distance events, Patrick McKneely shaved two minutes off hnis 1650-yd race as he clocked a 21.59.19, a new Marlin record. Matt Bavuso also had a solid race in that event as he came in at 24:08.78, cutting his personal best by three minutes.

At the relays, Woolf, Carlo, Jernigan and Rinkus set a new school record in the 400-yd free as they finished with a time of 3:44.20.
