Men Set Multiple Records on First Day of W&L Invitational
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan University men's swimming team broke several school records in the first day of competition at the W&L Invitational Saturday.
Patrick McKneely posted a time of 6:26.75 in the 500 freestyle, 25 seconds faster than the previous mark set by a Marlin. Kristian Rinkus also continued his impressive season, setting the 50 freestyle record with a time of 22.39. The previous best was a time of 25.71 set in early November.
Rinkus also joined with Stephen Carlo, Kyle Woolf, and Daniel Roberts for a record-setting 400 medley relay team. The quartet stopped the clock at 4:26.16, besting the time the quartet set in November by just two seconds.
The Marlins accumulated 55 points on Saturday to find themselves in fifth place. VWU will look to catch Randolph College on Sunday as the WildCats are just 5.5 points ahead of the Marlins. Washington and Lee University leads after one day of competition with 369.5 points.
