Men Take to the Pool for the First Time at ODAC Relays

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan University men's swimming competed collegiately for the first time Saturday at the ODAC Relays hosted by Washington and Lee University. The meet featured several specialty relays not found in most traditional events as the meet was a relay-only competition.

The Marlins registered 12 points in the 400 yard freestyle relay as Austin DeRosa, Patrick McKneely, Wade Jernigan, and Daniel Roberts ended with a time of 4:05.63. The team of Stephen Carlo, McKneely, and DeRosa earned 11 points in the 3x50 yard breaststroke relay with a time of 1:48.38. Virginia Wesleyan also earned 11 points in the 200 yard medley and 200 yard freestyle relays. DeRosa, Roberts, Kyle Woolf, and McKneely earned a time of 2:01.14 in the medley while Carlo, Matthew Bavuso, Jernigan, and Woolf posted a 1:49.62 in the free.

Virginia Wesleyan finished in ninth with 42 points on the day while Washington and Lee University won the meet with 502 points.

Virginia Wesleyan will compete at home for the first time on Saturday, October 21 as the Marlins host Randolph College for a dual meet with a 1 p.m. start.
