HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team came back to beat Eastern Mennonite, 3-1, Tuesday evening on the road. With the win, the Marlins improve to 2-10-0 on the year and 2-4 in conference action. The Royals slide to 7-6-1 on the season (2-4-0 ODAC).
After surrendering a first half goal, the Marlins looked to even things up in the second stanza. That opportunity arose off a corner kick in the 75th minute as Evan Kastetter sent a ball into the Royals box. The ball would eventually squirt out to Will Augsberger near the top of the 18 and he rifled a shot that found the back of the net.
Just under seven minutes later, another opportunity presented itself after a hard EMU tackle at the top of the box warranted a red card and a free kick. Kastetter and Ron Rosales both lined up for the set piece, with Rosales stepping over the ball and Kastetter firing a low, hard shot that put the Marlins up by one.
With momentum on their side and the opposition down a man, Ricky Perrault slammed home an insurance goal. The senior picked off a pass and found himself streaking towards the keeper one-on-one. He made a nice touch to bypass the sliding netminder and calmly dumped the ball into the empty net.
Walter Morris picked up his first win as Marlin, turning aside two Royal shots on the evening.
Men's soccer will return to action at 6 p.m. on Saturday as the team hosts Roanoke at the Trinder Center.
