Men Start ODAC Play with 2-0 Win

EMORY, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team started Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Emory & Henry College.

Scoring started early as Tyriq Wellman found the back of the net on just the third shot, first on goal, in the match. Wellman had a breakaway down the right side then ripped a shot that ricocheted off the near post and in at 8:05.

That lead lasted until well in the second half when Ikechukwu Etonyeaku scored his third goal of the season. Etonyeaku dribbled down the right side before finding space to get off a shot that stopped the clock at 66:30.

Virginia Wesleyan outshot Emory & Henry 11-7 with a 7-1 margin in corner kicks. Hemza Abadneh made two saves for E&H (3-5/0-1) while Nick Peterson registered a save to preserve the Marlin shutout.

Virginia Wesleyan (6-2/1-0) hosts the University of Mary Washington Wednesday at 7 p.m.
