Men's Lacrosse Falls in Cold Conditions to #18 Christopher Newport

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team fell to #18 Christopher Newport University on a cold Wednesday night on Birdsong Field. With the loss, the Marlins move to 3-5 on the season while the Captains remain unbeaten (8-0).

CNU got on the opened up fast getting up to a 4-0 lead over the first 10:44. Dante Castillo stopped the attack though as he netted a diving goal from behind the net at the 3:36 mark.The Captains offense continued to apply pressure though, scoring the contest's next six goals. Nick Zepko put in two during the second quarter, but the Marlins trailed 12-3 going into halftime.

In the third, it was more CNU as it outscored VWU 5-1. The final stanza opened with a bit of a run by the Marlins, scoring three three-straight goals but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Zepko finished the game with three goals while Tyler Conn recorded two. The other Marlin goal came by way of Greg Gaetano.

Defensively, Conn performed well as he came away with a career-high seven caused turnovers. In goal, Cory Austin stopped 10 Captain shots.

Men's lacrosse returns to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday as the squad hosts Bridgewater for a little bit of ODAC play.
