Marlins to Face Shenandoah on Saturday
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College men's lacrosse team will match up with Shenandoah University on Saturday for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest.
Shenandoah (7-3/2-1) is currently on a two-game winning streak heading into the week, but will face perennial power Lynchburg College before venturing down to take on the Marlins. The Hornets have only lost one road game this season.
Senior Stephen LaTona lead the Hornets with six goals and one assist for seven points for the squad's first-ever victory over Ferrum College, 13-8, on Saturday. LaTona is the go-to man for the Hornets and the Marlins will have to keep a look out for him as he leads the squad with 34 goals. Tilghman Sanders is also a force on the offensive end, leading the Hornets in assists (28) and points (41).
Sanders ranks second in the ODAC in assists and fourth in points while LaTona is the league leader in goals and fifth in total points.
The Marlins will be attempting to start their first winning streak of the season against the Hornets. Virginia Wesleyan won the game last season, 15-11, at Shenandoah. Josh Currier had nine goals for the Marlins while LaTona finished with five points for SU.
Joe Couture leads the Marlins with 15 goals and 20 points. Matt Baldwin paces the squad with 10 assists. Eddie Desiderio (13 goals) and Justin Metzger (10 goals) could also be big factors in a potential Marlin win.
