Men's Golf Takes First At Marlin Invite; Kingora Swings Her Way Into the VWU Record Books

SUFFOLK, Va. - The men's and women's golf teams shined at their home tournament, the Marlin Invite, Sunday afternoon at Sleepy Hole Golf Course. The men's "A' team claimed first place overall as the squad shot a combined score of 604. The men's 'B' team nabbed fourth place, turning in a 656.

Leading the pack was senior Kevin Duffy who shot a 72 (E) on day two for a total score of 146 (+2). Keith Cooper was not too far behind him as he turned in a two-day total of 147 (+3) which earned him second overall. Carter Morgan also finished in the top ten, taking seventh with a scorecard of 155 (+11).

On the men's 'B' team, Peter Scrimgeour placed ninth in the field as his 82 shot on Sunday brought his total to 157 (+13).

Maggie Kingora played exceptionally well on the women's side as she shaved 14 strokes off her day one score to shoot a 77. This score earned her second place in the tournament and also set a new Virginia Wesleyan University record for a single-day score. Teammate Hannah Turner played well too as she turned in a 183 which placed her in sixth.

Golf will return to action on Sunday as the squads will head to Nellysford, Va. for the ODAC Championships.
