Men's Basketball Unable to Get By No. 12 Yellow Jackets

ASHLAND, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball team dropped its contest with nationally-ranked Randolph-Macon, 62-50, Wednesday afternoon on the road. With the loss, the Marlins move 8-11 on the season and 6-4 in conference play. Randolph-Macon improves to 17-2 on the year (9-1 ODAC).

Through the first eight minutes, things were even from the two sides as each team was cashing in some buckets. The bigs were helping the Marlins underneath as Tim Fisher, Kelvin Nicholson and Percy Burt all found their way onto the scoresheet. Macon used a 9-2 run to put a little distance between the squads and would finish the period with a 35-27 advantage.

This lead would be all that was needed as the Marlins couldn't manufacture a run that put them even or on top of the Yellow Jackets.

Fisher came away with another double-double (his ninth of the season) as he delivered 12 points and 10 boards. Lamont Steward matched Fisher's twelve, while Burt also pitched in 11. Those two would also each come away with seven boards, helping the Marlins create a +7 (40-33) advantage on the glass.

Men's basketball will return to action at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday as the squad faces off against Roanoke in the Jane P. Batten Student Center.
