Marlins Unable to Overcome Early Woes in Loss to Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball team fell, 67-52, to Bridgewater on the road Wednesday evening. With the loss, the Marlins go to 10-6 on the year and 4-3 in conference play. Bridgewater improves to 10-6 overall (4-3 DOAC).

The Marlins found themselves in a hole early as the Eagles scored the contest's first eight points. The bleeding stopped there, but Virginia Wesleyan had trouble erasing the deficit and trailed 32-24 going into the intermission.

To open up the second half, VWU pressed a comeback as it when on a 10-3 run to get within a point. The Eagles squabbled the attempt though as they followed that with a 17-4 of their own. The run would be too much for the Marlins to surpass and Bridgewater would eventually take the victory.

Tyree Golston was the team's top scorer, cashing in 12 points for the Marlins. Steward was the only other to score in double-digits with 10.

Men's basketball returns to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday as the team hosts Guilford in the Jane P. Batten Student Center.
