Sam Jackson joined the Virginia Wesleyan field hockey coaching staff for the 2017 season.
“I am extremely ecstatic to welcome Sam back to Virginia Wesleyan,” head coach Christina Restivo said. “Having Sam play for me for three years was incredible and I always wished I had more time with her.”
Jackson, a 2016 graduate of Virginia Wesleyan, was a two-time All-ODAC selection as a member of the Marlin field hockey team. She registered eight goals, six assists, and 22 points in her career.
“She was able to play almost every position on the field and is going to add so much knowledge when coaching this team,” Restivo added. “It's also incredibly rewarding when having an alumnus come back and want to help. Sam is one of those players who bought into the culture when I came into the program and has helped me cultivate this program and has been with me since day one. I'm very lucky to have her once again by my side.”
Jackson, a team captain as a senior, was able to play all over the field during her career and her leadership was unmatched. Her ability to play on the defensive end, take the ball up the turf, and score on the offensive end with be an asset to the coaching staff.
