Field Hockey Falls 5-0 to Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, Md. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College field hockey team put all four of its shots on goal but ultimately fell 5-0 to Frostburg State University on Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats pressured the Marlins from the start, scoring less than six minutes in when Alexandra Darrow found Samantha Schaffer for a 1-0 advantage. FSU ripped two more shots that were saved by VWC keeper Skye Swain before scoring a second goal at 11:40 when Ashley Johnson found Jackie Best.

Three minutes later, Best as Darrow got into the action again as Darrow scored on a Best assist.

Darrow added two more goals in the second half to end with three goals and an assist. Jackie Gover made four saves for Frostburg State (2-2).

Swain ended with 11 saves for the Marlins. Frostburg State held a 17-4 advantage in shots and an 8-4 margin in saves.

Virginia Wesleyan (1-3) hosts No. 2 Salisbury University (4-0) Thursday at 3 p.m. in another non-conference bout.
