Baseball's Comeback Falls Short in ODAC Championship Second Round

ASHLAND, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team fell, 4-2, to Randolph-Macon Thursday afternoon in the second round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship. With the loss, the Marlins slide to 21-16 on the season and will go on to play the loser of Shenandoah and Roanoke at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

Neither side could seem to get a run to cross the plate in the early goings, but the Yellow Jackets broke through with a single run in the fifth. One inning later, they would go up 4-0 on a couple doubles and a solo home run. The Marlins dug their heels in in the seventh though, severing the Macon lead in half. Jacob Pilarski got the frame going, leading off with a double to right field. In the next at-bat, Austin Obenour traded places with the junior as he doubled to left field. After a Jordan McDonough groundout moved Obenour to third, Brady Fallon was able to plate the second run of the frame with a single into center. The Marlins would get runners in scoring position in each of the final two innings, but were unable to to get either around.

Andrew Lowe took the loss on the mound, going 5.2 innings and striking out six. He would be relieved by Adam Brooks, who allowed just a pair of Macon hits through the final 2.1 frames.
