VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball and softball teams will take to the field this upcoming weekend for post season play as both prepare for some Division III NCAA action. This will be the first time in Virginia Wesleyan history that both teams will be competing in the National Tournament in the same season.
The Marlin baseball team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA York, Pa. Regional, posting a record of 28-14 and making their way to the final day to the ODAC Championship Tournament. The squad's first game is slated at 10 a.m. on Thursday where it will take on Misericordia University (31-12). The last time Virginia Wesleyan made it the NCAA Championship Regional Round was 2006, where the Marlins went 2-2 before being knocked out by North Carolina Wesleyan.
Joining the Marlins and Cougars in the double-elimination tournament will be Castleton University, Arcadia University, Union College, Babson College and Catholic University.
After securing the title of Regional Round Champion last weekend, the Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (48-2) will continue its quest to defend its 2017 National Championship title as it moves onto the NCAA Super Regional. The Marlins will host Berry College (39-4) at Marlins Park in a best-of-three series, with game one scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m. Game two will take place at 2 p.m. the following day with the third game (if necessary) coming directly after that.
